We were delighted to continue our long-standing support of the Macra and Teagasc Challenge Day and award Wayne Smith from Gurteen Agricultural College with the FRS Memorial Scholarship.
Set up in 2009, the FRS Memorial Scholarship is awarded on an annual basis at this event and it is held to honour the memory of those that have contributed to the FRS business but sadly are no longer with us.
The scholarship is awarded to the student that achieves the highest marks in the presentation section of the Challenge Day on the topic of leadership and sustainability. Wayne received a Perpetual Trophy and in addition a 3-month paid internship within the FRS Co-op.
Colette McInerney, Head of Operations for FRS Farm Relief commented, “We were extremely proud to be part of this event and to have the opportunity to award the FRS Memorial Scholarship to Wayne Smith from Gurteen College who delivered an excellent and engaging presentation on Leadership and Sustainability. We look forward to having Wayne onboard to gain valuable agribusiness experience through his scholarship internship with FRS. The standard of presentations were very high with only a few marks separating the contenders. For FRS the scholarship offers us a way to honour our past colleagues and give an agri student the important step forward in their future career in the industry”.
Teams of 12 students from Teagasc and private agricultural colleges around the country competed in sport, presentations, and skills learned during the college year such as stock judging, tractor driving and teamwork challenges, as part of the 2023 Macra & Teagasc Ag College’s Day.
The overall winners this year were Mountbellew Agricultural College from County Galway.
Congratulations to all involved.
